A Thing of Beauty

Aren't these geraniums just beautiful? At the end of the summer, my friend Cornelia broke 2 gorgeous peach blooms from her porch geranium and gave them to me.  I put them in a jar and set them in my kitchen window.  Now being highly motivated, I brought in a dead looking red geranium which I had neglected in our dry summer.  I gave them lots of light and fresh water and waited to see what happened. Now, in the middle of this cold and snowy winter, I have these two lovely plants blooming side by side, each unique but all the more beautiful because they are together!
It occurred to me that these lovely flowers are like the friendship Cornelia and I share.  Friends for nearly thirty years, we have let our friendship suffer seasons of neglect.  But when we tend to our friendship, giving it love while we walk in the light  of The Light of the world, sinking our roots deep into the water of His Word, He adds His grace and beauty making our friendship indeed a thing of beauty.
Thank you, dear friend!

  1. I love the comparison of flowers to friendships….It is a ‘beautiful’ analogy! As said by the famous poet John Keats “A thing of beauty is a joy forever,” and friendship is a beautiful thing which brings joy. Friendship is one such plant. We have to take care of friends, just as we take care of the plants we grow.
